The UnderGrowth opened August 25th 2002. In the beginning The Growth was strictly an online forum for fans to congregate and talk about Metal. After I got involved in my local Metal scene around the end of ’02, (by helping bands with Poster and CD designs) I created a main site along with keeping the forums open. The UnderGrowth's focus quickly shifted to album/concert reviews and updating News on Metal bands from around the globe.

By ‘04 The UnderGrowth released its first Compilation album. Titled 'Shrouded in Silent Omens' the CD consisted of Extreme Metal bands from the East Coast of Canada.

Summer of 2004 marked the 2nd anniversary of The UnderGrowth and in celebration I put on my first of many Concerts. It took place at The Right Spot in Moncton N.B. Surprisingly the show went smoothly. With the only major problem of the night being the Cop's showing up due to Noise complaints when the first act SOUL DEVOURER (Minto NB) got on stage. (Rightfully so, they really fucking sucked) BRANDON STREET MASSACRE (Moncton NB), GRUESOME FEST (Summerside PEI), and SLAUGHTER OF SAINTS (Miramichi NB) rounded out the bands of the night; sadly all of them have disbanded over the years.

In 2005 The Growth released BLACK FROST's 'Will to Force' EP. All 50 limited printed copies sold out within 2 days at the Maritime Metalfest 2005. That same year MIDST OF SUFFERING/BLACK AUTUMN - Beyond Christian Lies/For Heretic's Blood was released. The bands printed a limited number of copies but due to financial reasons none were actually printed by The UnderGrowth.

In 2006 'Shrouded in Silent Omens II' was released. Momentum started to pick up at this point and BURNING MOON’s greatest hits album '12 Years Of Hell' was released a few months later. At the end of '06 AMNESTY debut album 'Demolition of the Infected' was released to eagerly awaiting fans.

In 2007 The UnderGrowth focused mainly on hosting Concerts. Between '05 and '07 The UnderGrowth worked with THY FLESH CONSUMED, HELLACAUST, THINE EYES BLEED, ANONYMUS, NEFASTUS DIES, UNEXPECT, COVENANCE, BLOODSHOTEYE, SORDID, FUCK THE FACTS, NEURAXIS, MISERY INDEX, KATAKLYSM, KRISIUN, BELPHEGOR, ROTTING CHRIST and DYING FETUS. Many good memories and shows were put on in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with the help of Luc, Vixen, Jamie, Ali, Dunlop, and Justin, and all the local bands that keep the scene alive and well.

Summer of 2007 I said farewell to the Maritimes and packed my bags. Hitch hiked to Montreal and settled in. Late 2007 and all of 2008 was quiet for The Growth. I found a full time job testing video games and have been saving up for a much needed trip to Europe in summer of '09. But that isn’t all that is coming in '09. Keep your eyes on The Growth.
